Wirral Grammar leading NW Grand prix

Wirral Grammar and Prenton girls teams took part the latest round of the NW U14 Grand Prix hels at Wigan on Satuday 30th March.

Wirral Grammar again took top place in the competition winning 8 tournament points on the day... league table. Prenton were 4th after playing well but losing to the teams from Urmston Grammar. These results put Wirral Grammar well clear at the top of the overall league table and looking favourites to win with only two rounds to go.

It's a shame that some of the other schools and clubs haven't shown as much commitment to this competition as our Wirral teams.

Two more losses to end NVL season

That’s it then. The end of a season beset by retirements and injuries and another two 0-3 losses. A year ago this would have been a grudge match, a local derby against fierce rivals, with a lot of tension and a noisy crowd, instead this was a fairly pointless end-of season fixture, bottom team (us) against top (Amazons) with no crowd and very little passion. Our girls fought hard, chased and scrambled well and kept trying but we struggled to hit winners against Amazons well organised defence and they were able to take both matches with some ease.... report

We have withdrawn from the league and won’t be competing in National league next season, concentrating instead on developing our promising U15 and U18 teams.

Chien's last game

Chien Li our club captain has decided to retire after more than 20 years in volleyball. She's been a terrific player, always combative, always geeing up the rest of the team, and always setting a terrific example to our youngsters.

Since she came back to Wirral after a spell with Chester she's been an inspiration and has made Wirral one of the strongest teams in Div 3N. Thank you Chien you've been a great club member and a marvelous captain.

The club will go on but we'll miss you.

Nicky Gore, our best attacker, has also decided to call it a day after a long playing career. Unfortunately she's missed most of this season through injury and we've missed her so  much we haven't managed to win a game without her - she was that important to the team as an attacking force as well as being a strong leader. The youngsters haven't looked the same without her to set an example.

Nicky will still be around and linked to the club through her Prenton girls teams.

NIcky's retiring too
