Two good wins for NVL team

It was our first home National League fixture of the season on Sunday, December 16th and we won both games, beating York Vipers and Manchester Marvels, and lifting us from bottom to 4th in the table.

The first match against York was tight but relatively straightforward as we came back after narrowly losing the first set to win 3-1.

The Manchester game went to 5 sets; we looked comfortable at 2-1 up but Marvels, who really didn't want to lose, fought their way to victory in the 4th as our attack faltered. Fortunately we were able to find more energy and a new attack strategy to take the 5th set 15-10.

All in all a very satisfactory day, even though we overran our booking time by an hour - thanks to the Woodchurch centre staff for staying on.

Our U15 B team played in the preliminary round of the EVA U15 Cup at Madely High School on Sunday, January 13th and won both their match to top the pool and qualify for the next round.

They will join our 'A' team in a 4 team pool including Tameside and Urmston Grammar.

It was the first experience of competitive six-a-side volleyball for our B team and the girls girls did really well, brushing aside early nerves to beat a young Cleobury side convincingly, then playing with much more confidence to win in 2 sets against Newcastle Staffs B who have a lot more match experience. Winning the pool takes Wirral B into Group A in round 1 proper which will be held at Fairfield School, Tameside on Sunday, January 26th
