MVL WD2

First match of the New Year for our U16 girls away to Frodsham.

Venue Frodsham Leisure Centre, Princeway, Frodsham. WA6 6RP

Result - lost 2-3, set scores 25-23, 16-25, 19-25, 26-24, 10-15

The best performance so far from this team and unlucky not to win this game.

After a fairly even first half our girls eased away to win the first set and looked much the best team. Frodsham brought on some more experienced players, ran away with the second set and maintained their form into the third as we struggled with serve-recieve, but we dominated the fourth set building a good early lead and holding on to win 26-24 despite Frodsham fighting back to level at 24-24. Two sets all and full of confidence going into the fifth we had the worst possible start going 2-6 down, again on poor serve-receive, but our girls fought back well and could have won but for some service errors near the death.

It was an exciting match and the most competitive this team has been involved in, notable for the much higher level of noise and engagement from both players and spectators. Our girls made real progress and stood up well to the pressure,  pleased to have played well but disappointed to lose.

This performance should give the team some confidence to take into their next game and to the National U16 Grand Prix on January 16th.
