Wirral U15s v Hoylake Hurricanes, Monday January 24th, 8:00pm

Team:Katie Leppington, Eisha Chahal, Helena Hinch, Imi Newall, Abi Larway, Lily Prosser, Yan Xi  Chen, and two newcomers trying out for the libero role Nina Karyampudi, and Millie Smith.

Result :Wirral U15s lost 1-3, 23-25, 26-28, 25-10, 22-25

This was a good performance for our youngest girls against an older team. Our girls tried and largely succeeded in playing in-system organised volleyball but were often caught out by unconventional play from Hurricanes. We lost the first two sets narrowly, just failing to close out the second when we twice had set point, then showed how strong the team can be in the third set when they led from the start and went on to a comfortable 25-10 win. That should have been the basis for a strong fourth set but we started badly with a string of errors on serv-recieve and coudn’t quite catch up over the course of the set.

Not a bad perfomance but it shows that our girls need to put together more (and more effective) attack and to learn to close out games when we have the advantage. It points up the need to practice service receive before the first roound of the U15 Grand Prix on Sunday.
