Wirral A and Wirral GIrls in MVL Sunday League Round 4

Sunday, 13 June 2021 10:00

Both our teams were involved in the fourth round of the MVL Sunday League on June 13.

Start time: 11:00and to 2:00pm

Venue: Stanney Lane, Ellesmere Port, CH65 9AQ

Teams:

Wirral A, Naomi Millard, Lauren Parker, Abbie Burrows, Katie Thomas, Lily Hogan

Wirral Girls: Nina Hofmann, Gina Nuttall, Eloise Duncalf, Lois Watson.

Not a great day for our Wirral A team, missing several players and giving debuts to two year 10s - Katie and Lily - our girls never gelled as team and lost all their games. There was, however, a real benefit in the way that Katie and Lily overcame their initial nerves and improved as the games progressed making a lot of progress over the course of the tournament. You could see the change in their confidence and movement carried through into the the training session we had at the beach later in the day.

Our girls team, on the other hand, had a really good day. Looking like a team from the minute they stepped on court, they gave Everton’s national league girls a run for their money in the first match, only lost out Chester Amazons 20-21 on a fluky point at the end of the first set, and won their third match against Knutsford convincingly. Our girls are 4th in the league table, behind the two Everton teams and Chester Amazons, a good performance already and with the possibility of improving further over the 3 matches they have to play on Women’s Finals Day, Sunday July 4th.
