Team: Katie Leppington. Eisha Chahal. Henlena Hinch, Abi Larway, Lily Prosser. Imi Newall, Yan Xi Chen

Our youngest team are making good progress and showed how well they are developing at Frodsham yesterday. The Frodsham girls had one really strong server who basicially won the first set for them but our team were stronger in open play and that showed though in set 2 when, helped by some good runs of serve from Lily and Abi, we were able to take control of the game. Another strong run of serves from Frodsham levelled up the scores at 24 all but our gitls held on to win 26-24.

The Frodham coach brought on some more senior, experienced players for the 3rd set who were able to steady the ship, and this, together with continuing strong serving helped them take the set 25-12. The 4th set was going the same way but with our team 23-12 down we found some fight. Eisha led the fightback by getting her serve in consistently and she was backed up by the team chasing and scrambling and fighting for every point. We had taken 5 points in a row and Frodsham were rocking before a tight line call gave them the ball and they were able to serve out the set.

I was proud of the team today, they didn’t give up, and kept fighting and trying right to the end. Individual players are making progress too, Abi is looking more and more convincing as a hitter and server, Lily had one really good run of topspin overarm serves and won some loose ball on the net, and Eisha and Katie covered acres of court and showed good ability to improvise returns from difficult situations.
