A bit disappointing really, the team has been looking better in training with all the players making improvements in key areas but it didn’t show in a match situation. There was some good serving and occcasional good passing and setting but it wasn’t consistent enough, we produced very little effective attack, and the whole team shape/ block and cover concept just went out of the window. Warrington nagged away with reliable if not very strong serving and we weren’t good enough to win the ball back. Even a good start based on strong serving from Ella and Nicole in the second set of match 2 that got us into a 9-3 lead was quickly surrendered.

There’s clearly work to do on team shape and cover. The girls are chasing the ball well enough but because our team organisation is poor they are too late getting into good positions, and not yet sufficiently confident of their covering responsibilities in different positions.

It was really nice to see the level of support from parents who brought the girls to the match and cheered enthusiastically for winning points and good rallies. Lets hope we can give them something more to cheer about next time.
